Quelque Part Sous l'Océan / Somewhere Beyond The Sea
J'ai publié la première étape de cette aquarelle il y a quelques mois déjà. "Quelque Part Sous l'Océan" a été séléctionnée dans le cadre des "18è Printemps de l'Aquarelle de Libramont", l'un des trois plus grands salons d'aquarelle en Belgique. L'exposition est à présent terminée, je peux donc vous présenter cette oeuvre en ligne.

A few months ago, I showed you the first step of this watercolour. "Somewhere Beyond The Sea" was selected for the "18th Watercolour Springs of Libramont", one of the third greatest watercolour salons in Belgium. The exhibition is now over and I am able to present this work online.

Orange de Chine / Chinese Orange (Sennelier)
L'Orange de Chine est une teinture. Il s'agit en réalité du nom commercial de la Terre de Sienne Quinacridone, une couleur bipigmentaire et transparente, fabriquée à partir d'Or Quinacridone (PO49) et de Rouge Quinacridone (PR209). La production du pigment Terre de Sienne Quinacridone a cessé en 2005, suite à l'arrêt préalable de fabrication de l'Or Quinacridone. En effet, l'industrie automobile était le principal consommateur de ce pigment (PO49) et sa demande n'était pas suffisante pour en poursuivre la mise en oeuvre.
A l'heure actuelle, seules quelques marques continuent de fabriquer l'Or Quinacridone véritable et, par la même occasion, la Terre de Sienne Quinacridone (comme, par exemple, le manufacturier français Sennelier) alors que d'autres l'ont remplacé par différents substituts (comme par exemple Winsor & Newton, qui utilise les pigments PR206, PV19 et PY50). Bien sûr, vous pouvez trouver d'autres substituts et créer votre propre Terre de Sienne Quinacridone mais le résultat ne sera jamais égal, en terme d'intensité, à celui du pigment original. Vous pouvez d'ailleurs le constater ci-dessous :
Chinese Orange is a staining pigment. It is the commercial name for Quinacridone Sienna, a bino pigmentary and transparent colour, made of Quinacridone Gold (PO49) and Quinacridone Red (PR209). Quinacridone Sienna was discontinued in 2005, because of the previous discontinuation of Quinacridone Gold. Indeed, the automobile manufacturers were the first consumers of this pigment (PO49) and their demand wasn't sufficient enough to continue its manufacture.
Today, only a few brands are still producing the real Quinacridone Gold and, by the same occasion, Quinacridone Sienna (as f.g. the French manufacturer Sennelier) when others have replaced it with different substitutes (as f.g. Winsor & Newton, which uses pigments PR206, PV19 and PY50). Of course, you can find substitutes and create your own Quinacridone Sienna but the result will never be as intense as the original pigment, as you can see on the picture above.
