Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours : Vernissage / Private View

Le vernissage de la 201è Exposition du Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours s'est déroulé ce 4 avril, aux Mall Galleries de Londres. L'exposition réunit 118 artistes venus du Royaume-Uni, des Etats-Unis, de France, de Grèce, d'Espagne et, puisque j'ai le plaisir d'y participer cette année, de Belgique.

Les 424 oeuvres sélectionnées présentent une grande variété de styles et de techniques dans le domaine de l'aquarelle et des médiums solubles à l'eau. Toutes ont été réalisées sur papier, à l'exception des superbes expérimentations sur acétate, aux textures incroyables, couleurs vivantes et éléments graphiques, réalisées par l'artiste américain, Mat Barber Kennedy.

L'événement a été inauguré officiellement par le critique d'art et présentateur Anthony J. Lester, qui a évoqué la polyvalence et les nombreux chemins créatifs que l'aquarelle a à offrir. La cérémonie s'est poursuivie par la remise des prix. Parmi les artistes récompensés, Naomi Tydeman a reçu le Turner Award and Medal pour ses paysages à la texture étonnante. David Poxon a quant à lui remporté le Winsor and Newton/RI Award pour son ensemble d'oeuvres dédiées au retour à la nature de ce que l'homme a créé puis abandonné, donnant alors naissance à une vie renouvelée entre l'objet et son environnement. Je ne suis malheureusement pas en mesure de lister la totalité des noms et prix décernés au moment où cet article est rédigé.

J'ai eu le grand plaisir de revoir d'excellents artistes et amis, notamment Andy Wood dont les aquarelles proposées reflètent la magie des scènes nocturnes, George Politis dont les dernières oeuvres texturées sont centrées sur l'art urbain, David Poxon ...et d'en rencontrer de nouveaux comme Sandra Walker et ses murs de briques rouges au réalisme étonnant ou encore Ann Blockley qui présente des fleurs aux textures inspirées par la nature.

Tout au long de l'événement, plusieurs conférences et démonstrations seront données chaque jour par les membres du RI. L'entrée y est gratuite. L'exposition du Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours se déroule jusqu'au 18 avril 2013 aux Mall Galleries de Londres et est accessible chaque jour de 10 à 17h. Les Mall Galleries se situent à 2 min. de marche de Trafalgar Square et de la National Gallery (Métro : Charing Cross).

The Private View of the 201st Exhibition of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours took place on 4th April at the Mall Galleries, in London. The exhibition gathers 118 artists coming from the United Kingdom, the United States, France, Greece, Spain, and, as I have the pleasure to take part in the show this year, Belgium.

The 424 selected works show a wide variety of styles and techniques of painting in watercolour and water soluble mediums - all works on paper with one exception, the wonderful watercolour experimentations on acetate, full of incredible textures, vivid colours and graphic elements, made by the US-resident artist, Mat Barber Kennedy.

The event was officially opened by the art critic and broadcaster Anthony J. Lester, who discussed about the versatility of the water soluble mediums and the creative paths that watercolour has to offer. The opening was followed by the awards ceremony. Among the awarded artists, Naomi Tydeman received the Turner Award and Medal for her beautiful textured landscapes. David Poxon won the Winsor and Newton/RI Award for his amazing group of paintings dedicated to the reclamation by nature of that which man has created and abandoned, finding renewed life between object and environment. I had the great pleasure to see some good friends and talented artists, including Andy Wood who proposes beautiful nightlife paintings, George Politis whose textured works are dedicated to street art, David Poxon ... and to meet new ones like Sandra Walker and her realistic read brick walls and Ann Blockley who presents flowers with textures inspired from nature.

During the event, there will be talks and demonstrations each day by RI members. All events are free with admission. The Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours exhibtion is on display at the Mall Galleries until 18 April 2013. The show opens daily from 10am until 5pm. The Mall Galleries are located at 2 minutes walk from Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery (Tube station : Charing Cross).
