Voici Fresh Crab, ma dernière aquarelle. Il s'agit d'un petit format réalisé pour le Mail Art Project "Reflets du Quotidien" organisé par mon ami George Politis. Ce projet réunit des artistes venus du monde entier. Toutes les oeuvres sont répertoriées en ligne et une exposition se tiendra dans le courant de cette année à Thessalonique, en Grèce.

L'aquarelle représente un pêcheur qui vend le produit de sa prise quotidienne au marché local. Sa vie est loin d'être un long fleuve tranquille. Il doit faire face aux incertitudes économiques liées au quotidien qu'il s'est choisi et, comme vous l'aurez sans doute remarqué, ce pêcheur montre également une certaine lassitude, répétant encore et encore les mêmes gestes tout au long de la journée. Le tableau saisit un moment volé de la réalité du quotidien.

En raison du format imposé, j'ai simplifié la composition. Pour l'arrière-plan, j'ai utilisé des formes géométriques simples de couleurs foncées, neutres ou plus vives au lieu de peindre les détails de l'arrière-salle. Un beau jour, je pourrais retravailler ce sujet à plus grande échelle afin d'en accentuer l'atmosphère et de jouer davantage avec les textures et les reflets d'eau à l'avant-plan.

Here is Fresh Crab, my latest watercolour painting. It is a small work that I painted for the Mail Art Project "Glimpses of Everyday Life", organized by my dear friend, George Politis. This project gathers artists from all over the world. All paintings are documented online and an exhibition will be held later this year in Thessaloniki, Greece.

I chose this subject as it depicts a fishermen who sells the results of his daily catch at the local market. His life is hard, he has to struggle with economic issues as many fishermen do and, as you may have noticed, he also shows some weariness, repeating the same gestures all day long. It is a kind of stolen moment / expression and reality of everyday life that I wanted to show.

Because the format is quite small, I had to simplify the composition. I used dark, neutral or colourful geometrical shapes in the background instead of adding details and painting the back room. One day, I might paint this subject again, in a larger format, to enhance the atmosphere and to better play with the textures and water reflections in the foreground.
