Somewhere, Beyond the Sea (1/2)
"Beyond the Sea" est la version anglaise de la chanson "La Mer" de Charles Trenet. Cependant, les paroles en anglais ne sont en rien similaires à la version française. Le morceau a été écrit en 1959 et a depuis lors été enregistré par de nombreux chanteurs.
Puisque je dois explorer la thématique de "l'eau" pour une sélection, j'ai choisi de l'interpréter dans toute sa dimension : la substance essentielle à la survie de toute forme humaine connue. Étant donné que l'eau recouvre 71% de la surface de la Terre et se trouve principalement dans les océans, ce sujet s'est imposé de lui-même.
Je peins sur l'un de mes papiers préférés (mais peu propice à l'erreur) : le Saunders Waterford, 638g/m² (CP). Tout d'abord, je protège les zones blanches du papier à l'aide du film de protection liquide Schmincke (Je le préfère au fluide de masquage car il ne comporte aucune trace d'ammoniac et ne colore pas le support.) et, ensuite, j'applique un premier lavis de Bleu Phtalocyanine (PB15:3) et de Terre de Sienne Naturelle (PBr7)*. Enfin, quelques effets de texture sont obtenus en projetant du sel sur la peinture encore humide.
* Ces couleurs sont toutes deux transparentes mais de nature totalement différente :
La Terre de Sienne Naturelle est un pigment naturel inorganique non-teintant et à faible granulation. En fonction des fabricants, cette couleur varie en termes de transparence, texture, nuance et saturation. Note : certaines couleurs terre traditionnelles ne sont plus fabriquées à l'aide de pigments naturels.
Le Bleu Phtalocyanine est l'un des pigments synthétiques organiques les plus transparents. Il est également très teintant. Sa force couleur est généralement élevée.

As I have to explore the thematic of "water" for a specific art competition, I have choosen to interpret it in all its dimension : the essential substance for the survival of all known forms of life. As water covers 71% of the Earth's surface and is found mostly in oceans, this subject came from itself.
I paint on one of my favourite (but very unforgiving) papers : the Saunders Waterford, 300lb (CP). I firstly protect some blank areas with Schmincke's liquid frisket (I prefer it to art masking fluid because it is without ammonia and doesn't colour the support.) and, then, I apply a layer of Phtalocyanine Blue (PB15:3) and Raw Sienna (PBr7)*. Finally, some texture effects are obtained by dropping salt into the wet wash.
* These colours are both transparent but their nature is totally different :
Raw Sienna is a slightly granulating and non staining natural inorganic pigment. Depending on the manufacturers, this colour varies in terms of transparency, texture, hue and saturation. Note : some of the traditional earth colours are no longer made with natural pigments.
Phtalocyanine Blue is one of the most transparent synthetic organic pigments. It is also strongly staining. Its tinting strength is typically high.
